It's Board Meeting Time at the Big Valley...

Saturday morning May 7th I'll be attending the regular board meeting of the board of directors at Big Valley to ask a few questions and try to get a conversation started about the need for some changes at the campground. I served on the board for four years, and during that time the board was pretty much closed to the thoughts of the members and so I expect my suggestions and questions to fall on deaf ears tomorrow...but at least I'll be brave enough to bring the issues to the for front.

Some of the issues that I'll ask about are:

  • Make the yearly audit open to the members.
  • Make public a quarterly statement show all expenditures and send it out in email format to anyone who request it.
  • Make the P&L profit and loss statement public to members
  • Start a conversation about the validity of people being living in full time in the campground at the cost of membership.
    • Full time campers are causing water, trash, road up keep, and sewer bills to sore.
  • Move away from the paper newsletter and go electronic. If a person has no access to the internet then send a paper copy to those people.  But you will find that over 75% of the people in this campground have internet access...this move alone will save $100 a year.
    • If you are not willing to go to an internet based newsletter...then get a bulk mail permit for the newsletter...you are wasting $100 in postage by mailing 1st class.
  • Proxy voting be put to an end....we all know that this has been used over and over in the past to literally fill the ballot box with a chosen fews wishes. Realizing that many people can not attend the different meetings, the campground must come up with an absentee ballot. This is the only honest way for the vote to take place and to make sure that a few people don't dominate the directions of the campground.
I'll report back tomorrow after the meeting and let you know of the boards reactions to the suggestions. This is an open conversation, we would all like to hear your thought. Please feel free to leave comment expressing your feelings about the way things are happening at the Big Valley. Thanks!
